You Don't Know
What You Have Done

Patrick Cannell © 1996

Why write a whole book? when a few simple words
Will say everything that you want them to say
And write every play that you want them to play
And win every war that you think should be won
And steer your chariot into the Sun.

You know what to do but don't know what you have done.
You don't know what you have done to me,
Your vanity is far far too free.

Why write a symphony? when a few simple chords
Will tell everyone what you want them to tell
And colour the words with emotion as well
And stretch your conceptions out to infinity
And steer your chariot in to the sea.

You know what you are but don't know what you could be.
You don't know what you could be in time,
Our grand design is oh so sublime.

You don't know what you have done.

Recorded in Durham Street Studio,

Karen Sheader, backing vocals.
